Mr. Burkett received a BA in Anthropology in 1960 from the University of Pittsburgh.
His area of special interest is archaeology and he is a graduate of Indiana University's Archaeological Field School at the Angel Mounds site, Evansville, Indiana. His professional work in archaeology includes Cultural Resource Management projects in Pennsylvania and New York. Special interest in wetlands led to several investigations in that field. He, and Raymond A. Stewart, excavated the Sid Hill Mastodon in a bog near Conneaut Lake in the 1970's. He, and Richard K. Cunningham, authored an article on local archaeology: The McFate site and Late Woodland Settlement and Subsistence in French Creek Valley, Northwestern Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Archaeologist, 1997.
